yes 8 January 2022 -  Veteran Christmas wreaths pick-up and Conex storage was completed -- on a very cold Saturday morning, with volunteers from Post 229, Air Force ROTC and others.

yes 12 Jan - Monthly Post 229 meeting at 7 P.M. (Reason for change from 13 Jan: Alabama American Legion Department Mid-Winter Conference starts 13 Jan 2022 in Montgomery, AL.  Cdr Vannoy is planning to attend.)  The monthly meeting started at 7 pm.  Location was Black Patch Distilary, 500 Lanier Rd, Suite C3, Madison 35758. The Auxiliary hosted a quick social at 6:30 with refreshments.  

yes 8 Jan 14 Jan - Due to weather conditions and School closings the deadline for High Schools/Junior High Schools nominees biographical sketch (or other emailed notification) submissions had been extended to Friday, 14 January 2022 for the American Legion Madison County/City Oratorical Contest 2022.  Schools were notified via Commander's Oratorical emails.

yes19 Jan - (Note: Date changed from 5 Jan).  Law Enforcement Officer of the Year - Deputy of the Year presentation was held at Madison County Commission meeting at 10 A.M. at Madison County Courthouse at 100 North Side Square, Huntville, AL 35801. Presentation was to Deputy Sheriff Jacob Busken. 

yes20 Jan - (Note changes:) The Madison County Oratorical Judges and Time Keepers 2022 Orientation training, originally scheduled for 13 Jan 2022 at the Madison Public Library, 142 Plaza Blvd, Madison, AL 35758, at 06:00 PM in Auditorium 2, was held 20 Jan 2022 at 1800 at Post 237, located at 2900 Drake Ave SW, Huntsville, AL 35805.  This change was due to several Legion members attending the Alabama State Mid-Winter Conference, in Montgomery, AL.

yes22 Jan -  Madison County/City American Legion Oratorical Contest at Madison City Hall, 100 Hughes Rd. Madison, AL 35758. (Competition started at 10 AM, contestants and parents/guests arrived by 9:30 A.M.)  Posts 229, 237 and 531 escorts/volunteers arrived to help with set up.   Danny J. Marr was Chairman of the 2022 competition. yes24 Jan - Annual Post 229 Legion awards given to selected Fire Department and Police Dept. awardees at the Madision City Council Meeting on 24 Jan.  Presentations were presented to: Agent Russ Owens as "Law Enforcement Officer of the Year for 2021" in the  Madision County Police Department and to: Driver/Engineer Kenneth Howard as "Firefighter of the Year for 2021" in the Madison City Fire Department.  (A link to an article to be published in: "The Madison Record" will be provided, when available.)

yes 27 Jan - The monthly open Veterans Breakfast at Little Libby's Catfish at 234 Lime Quarry Rd., Madison, AL started at 0830. 

February 2022

yes1 Feb - Post 229 Officers held meeting at store location at 1900.

yes10 Feb - Monthly Post 229 American Legion meeting held at Black Patch on Lanier Rd, Madison; social at 1830; meeting at 1900. Auxiliary sold raffle tickets for Valentine Day baskets.

yes12 Feb - District 12 Oratorical Contest  held at Madison City Hall on Hughes Rd.  Stacey Harring is designated Chairperson for this event.  Christine Johnson wins 1st place finish again in this contest and will head next to the Alabama Legion Division Contest.

yes15 Feb - Entry Forms were due for Dept of Alabama 2022 Junior Shooting Sports Program Commander's Cup and Camp. 16-18 shooters required and JROTC is target. Bob Jones and Sparkman High Schools are participating so far. 

yes Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) held in Anniston, AL 5 March.  Two Madison Teams competed. 

yes10 Mar - Monthly Post 229 member meeting held at the Black Patch Distillery off Lanier Rd at 1900.  Social started at 1830.

yes 19 Mar - Military Appreciation Night with the Huntsville, HAVOC.  Tickets available from 'Still Serving Veteran's.

yes24 Mar - The monthly open Veterans Breakfast at Little Libby's Catfish at 234 Lime Quarry Rd., Madison, AL starts at 0830.

yes29 Mar - 10th Annual Vietnam Veterans Day Celebration, Huntsville, Madison City Veterans Memorial Park, 10:00AM - 12:00 PM.

                                                                            

yes2 Apr - (TBD) "An Evening of Laugher with Jody Fuller" at Redstone Arsenal Summit at 5:30 PM.  Post 229 earns ~$500.
