Madison American Legion Post 229 has established an Honor Guard team with the financial assistance of the Madison state legislative delegation.

Because of the overwhelming demand for funeral service support from the active duty and reserve military components; based on established rules and availability, deceased veterans often times are not provided well deserved funeral honors, including a firing squad.   Unless the veteran is being buried in a national cemetery, there is no guarantee that you will receive a full military detail, regardless of your time in service or accomplishments. If they are not available, they cannot fulfill your request.  Typically, upon request, the military does provide a flag detail and sometimes a bugler.

The American Legion and specifically American Legion Post 229 is now providing these services; including casket American Flag folding and presentation to family, a rifle firing detail and a bugler.  This is offered at no cost, to our veterans, independent of their membership in the American Legion.  The honor guard is also supporting veteran events including but not limited to military parades, Memorial Day events, Veterans Day events, and flag retirement ceremonies.

If you are a veteran and interested in being part of the honor guard, our post is seeking applicants.

The honor guard services are available to any honorably discharged veteran,  Contact our Post 229 Honor Guard Commander, Tommy Whitten, (256) 508-0435 or Email TommyWhitten51@gmail.com.

Huntsville Post 237 also offers Honor Guard services. Contact Post 237 at http://www.legion237.com for more information.
