About the American Legion:

The American Legion is largest veteran’s organization in US, approx. 2 Million, 100 yrs old.   The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization. Focusing on service to veterans, servicemembers and communities, the Legion evolved from a group of war-weary veterans of World War I into one of the most influential nonprofit groups in the United States.  Veterans Administration and GI Bill can be attributed to the American Legion.

Meet Monthly, 2nd Thursday, 7 PM, Lunar Lodge, Eastview Drive,

Associated Organizations


•     Host Oratorical Contest (Financial Awards)

•     Junior Shooters Program/Completion (three teams)

•     Police Officer / Firefighter Of The Year presentations

•     JROTC Scholastic and Military Excellence Awards for three JROTC programs (spring)

•     Memorial Day Ceremony (May)

•     Place American Flags Memorial Day, Veterans Day (May, Nov)

•     Place Wreaths at Christmas (Dec)

•     Support Honored Legacies for Veterans events (monthly)

•     Make “Quilt of Valor” quilt gifting presentations

•     Sponsor Boy Scouts; provide merit badge councilors, Eagle Scout Program sponsorship

•     Taken over responsibility of maintaining flags at City Entrance, Hughes/Madison Blvd

•     Support and Coordinate with State and National Veteran Indicatives
